Objective
The main objective of Wollega Stadium Complex is to avail a modern entertainment
center for the local youth for the sole purpose of conducting sport activities.
Goal
The project aims at building a productive generation of youth with sustainable mental and physical wellbeing, with emphasis on reducing the spread of HIV-AIDS.
Project Description
The intention of the project is to construct a multipurpose stadium with
a capacity to hold different kinds of sport competition. This step is believed to alliviate
the shortage of entertainment facilities for the youth.
The stadium has 20000 seat (fully covered roof) with the following facilities:-
- Olympic standard running track and field
- FIFA standard football field
- Gymnasium Swimming Pool, Tennis Court, Basket and Volley
Ball fields etc.
- Administration offices
- Public Library
- Restaurants, shops and other services.
Site Location
The Youth Center and stadium with its accompanying facilities
will be built in the western part of Nekemt town around the area, commonly called "Gibii". The size of the plot is 7ha.
The project can be considered as the utmost endeavour in positively changing the
image of the town and building social infrastructure. |
Project Design Concept
The main functional component
of the sports center being the stadium, other suportive facilities are also included.
The design has also expansion possiblities with cost efficient strategies. The design
reflects local culture (both tangible and intangible heritages).
Construction Time and Cost
The construction is expectected to last 4 years from 2008-2011. The total project
cost which is estimated at Birr 190 million
is expected from community, public and donors. To
this date, Birr 33,200,000 is collected.

The project is led by East Wollega zone Youth and Sport Bureau. It effects the implimentation
of the project through:-
